Printable Periodic Table

1/31/2019

Comments

Even with all of the periodic tables out there on the internet, we never found one that was quite what we were looking for in our classes so we made our own!! This table is made in Microsoft Powerpoint and is completely editable so it is easy to add or remove different features depending on the audience. It's great to have in full color to better highlight certain differences and element colors, but with the huge number of these that we print out each year, we also made a version that shows up better in black and white.

Features

Each element on the table, contains some extra useful information.
Picture
  • Atomic #, Symbol, and Name
  • Atomic Weight - rounded to 2 decimals
  • Ion Charge - Indicates the charge(s) when the element forms ions
  • State of Matter Symbol - indicates whether element is a solid, liquid, or gas at room temperature. The color version also communicates the most common color of the element
  • Synthetic Symbol - identifies elements that do not naturally form in meaningful quantities
  • Radioactive Symbol - identifies elements that are traditionally radioactively unstable
  • Diatomic Symbol - identifies elements that form in pairs when alone

Resource Page on the Back

On the back, we included some other useful resources that students need for basic chemistry. this can easily be edited or reformatted as needed on the powerpoint files.
Common Polyatomic Ions
This list includes most of the main polyatomic ions that show up in example problems and high school labs. The seven ions that are highlighted are the ones that show up the most frequently in our course so we have students memorize these ones :)

Prefixes
Useful when naming covalent compounds

Roman Numerals
Some students find it helpful to be able to confirm with this list when working with multivalent metals. (really, there is no reason to go up to 10 though...)

SR Activity Series
Relative ranking of metals (including Hydrogen) and nonmetals based on their reactivity. Helpful for predicting single replacement reactions

Classroom Poster

Picture
I put together a hi-res version of the file to get classroom posters made to match the student's handouts. We used docucopies.com to order 3' x 4' vinyl posters. When they do a half off sale, the price drops below $35 per poster!! :)
